Welsh baritone Wyn Pencarreg studied at the Royal Northern College of Music gaining many prizes and scholarships including awards from the Countess of Munster Trust, the Peter Moores Foundation and the Wolfson Foundation. He was also a winner of the Erich Vietheer Memorial Award from Glyndebourne Festival Opera. He continues his studies with David Pollard.
Highlights in recent seasons include Padre Sansón The Exterminating Angel and Flemish Deputy Don Carlos and Fiorello Il barbiere di Siviglia for the Royal Opera House, Cuno Der Freichütz with the OAE conducted by Sir Mark Elder, Surin The Queen of Spades for English National Opera, Sharpless Madama Butterfly at the Royal Albert Hall and Music Master Ariadne auf Naxos at West Green House. In the current season Wyn performs Alcindoro La bohème for The Royal Opera, in a new production directed by Richard Jones and his debut at Welsh National Opera as Alcade La forza del destino. He will also understudy Claudius Hamlet for Glyndebourne.
