New Artist - Ben Williamson

We are delighted to announce that we now represent the young countertenor Ben Williamson.

Ben recently covered Mago Christiano in Handel’s Rinaldo for Glyndebourne on Tour and Nireno in Handel’s Giulio Cesare with Opera North. His roles include Bertarido in Handel’s Rodelinda, Mirtillo in Handel’s Il Pastor Fido and Tassile in Handel’s Alessandro at the London Handel Festival under Laurence Cummings; George Saintsbury in The Lovely Ladies by Peter Cowdrey with Opera Unlimited at the Buxton Festival; Tragedy in Stephen Oliver’s Euridice with British Youth Opera

Concert highlights include Ben’s Wigmore Hall debut with Purcell’s The Fairy Queen under Matthew Halls; Purcell’s Hail, Bright Cecilia (State Hermitage, St. Petersburg); Bach’s Mass in B minor with the Conductus Ensemble (Logrono, Spain); and Bernstein Chichester Psalms with the choir of New College, Oxford under Edward Higginbottom (Perugia, Italy).

 

Upcoming engagements include covering Bertarido in Handel's Rodelinda with Scottish Opera, La Virtù in Vivaldi’s La Senna Festeggiante with Ensemble Serse, Spirit in The Little Kettlehead with Size Zero Opera, and a concert with Cries of London at the Wigmore Hall.

Ailish Tynan performs Poulenc's Gloria with the with RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra at the National Concert Hall in Dublin on Friday 3 May under Brazilian conductor Celso Antunes.

Tippett, Bizet & Beethoven

Owen Gilhooly has a busy few weeks ahead as he prepare to perform Escamillo in the Opera Theatre Company's production of Carmen. The production opens on 3 May at the G.B. Shaw Theatre in Carlow before touring.

Before the first night of Carmen, on 1 May Owen will perform in Tippett's A Child of Our Time at the Cork International Choral Festival. On 8 May he goes on to perform in Beethoven Symphony No.9 with the Bristol Ensemble and Bristol Choral Society at Colston Hall with another of our artists Gweneth-Ann Jeffers.

Huddersfield Choral and Wigmore Hall

Ailish Tynan performs in the Stanford Stabat Mater with Huddersfield Choral Society and the Orchestra of Opera North at Huddersfield Town Hall this evening (12 April), Christopher Seaman conducts.

On Saturday 13 April Ailish preforms at the Wigmore Hall in the Graham Johnson Gala Concert. Other soloists include Sarah Connolly, Mark Padmore, Ben Johnson, Robin Tritschler, Christopher Maltman and Benjamin Appl. 

Katherine Marriott performs the Electress

Katherine Marriott stepped in to perform the role of  Die Kurfürstin (Electress) in Der Prinz von Homburg at the Staatstheater Mainz last night (11 April). This is her second performance of this role.

Katy is also currently performing the role of Filipyevna in Eugene Onegin, also in Mainz.

Irish premiere for Owen Gilhooly

Owen Gilhooly performs the role of Manfred in the Irish premiere of Jake Heggie's For a Look or a Touch at The Lir, Trinity College Dublin in partnership with the RIAM. Performances are 25, 26, 27, March.

Jake Heggie's poignant work tells the story of two gay lovers separated during the Holocaust.

Ailish Tynan in Berlin with the ICO

Ailish Tynan performs in a New Years Concert with the Irish Chamber Orchestra on 21 January at the Konzerthaus Berlin on the occasion of Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Ailish's programme includes Schubert's The Shepherd on the Rock D 965 and The Last Rose of Summer, both pieces for soprano, clarinet and orchestra.

New Artist - Peter Selwyn

We are delighted to announce that we a have taken over the representation of the conductor Peter Selwyn. During his career Peter has conducted at many significant houses including the Staatstheater Nürnberg, Opera Holland Park, English Touring Opera, Opera North, Welsh National Opera and in Prague. He has also assisted on productions at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, English National Opera & Glyndebourne; as well as at European opera houses including Hamburg, Oslo and Strasbourg. He is co-founder and Artistic Director of the Internationales Kammermusikfestival Nürnberg, and a Professor at the Royal College of Music.

Peter has a repertoire of well over fifty operas including Fidelio, Hänsel und Gretel, Peter Grimes, La rondine, Salome, Owen Wingrave, The Rape of Lucretia, Jenůfa, Roméo et Juliette and Carmen.

Recent projects include La Rondine (Opera Holland Park), Salome (Singapore Lyric Opera), and Der Kaiser von Atlantis (English Touring Opera). He is currently assisting on Otello for Opera North.

A Classic Christmas with Ailish Tynan

Ailish Tynan performs with the BBC Concert Orchestra on 11 December at the Waford Colosseum.

Sarah Redgwick - Make an Aria Masterclass

Sarah Redgwick takes part in a Music Theatre Wales Masterclass at Opera North tomorrow evening (4 December). 

Five writers from the University of Leeds have been working with five composers from the Royal Northern College of Music to write original arias about pacts with the devil, all under the watchful eyes of Music Theatre Wales’ artistic directors, Michael McCarthy and Michael Rafferty.

Sarah will perform one of the arias and celebrated composer, Mark-Anthony Turnage will be on hand to offer suggestions and advice.

Recording of Mendelssohn's Handel respray!

Jeni Bern's latest recording, released October 2012, is Mendelssohn's arrangement of Handel's Acis and Galatea. The recroding is conducted by Stephen Darlington with the Oxford Philomusica and other soloists - Nathan Vale, Brindley Sherrat and Benjamin Hulett.

Spectacular Classics in Birmingham

Sarah Redgwick performs in Spectacular Classics for Raymond Gubbay at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham on 1 December 2012. Sarah is joined by tenor Philip O'Brien and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and City of Birmingham Choir.

Gweneth-Ann Jeffers returns to perform in Poland this week at the Teatr Wielki in Poznań.

Wednesday 22 November - Verdi Gala Concert with exceprts of Un ballo in Maschera, Il trovatore and La forza del destino. The concert is conducted by Tadeusz Kozłowski.

Sunday 25 November - Aida in a revival production directed by Marek Weiss-Grzesiński and conducted by their new artistic director Gabriel Chmura.

Ailish Tynan performs songs by Berg, Schubert and Mahler in a series of recitals for Music at Tresanton from 23 to 25 November. She will be accompanied by pianists Noam Greenberg and Ferenc Rados.

Catrine Kirkman won the John Kerr Award for English Song as both the overall winner and audience prize. The final was held on 21st October at Finchcocks Instrumental Museum, Goudhurst, Kent.

Gweneth-Ann Jeffers - UK premiere of 4 Act Edgar

Gweneth-Ann Jeffers performs the role of Tigrana for New Sussex Opera in the UK premiere of the original 4 Act version of Puccini's Edgar in a new critical edition.

Claire Watkins - First Lady for Scottish Opera

Claire Watkins performs First Lady in a spectaular new 'Steam Punk' Victoriana inspired production of The Magic Flute for Scottish Opera. Sir Thomas Allen directs and Magic Flute expert Ekhart Wycik conducts.

Ailish Tynan - Frank Bridge Song Focus

Ailish Tynan performs at the Wigmore Hall on 26 September in a programme entitled "Frank Bridge Song Focus", alongside tenor Robert Murray and pianist Iain Burnside.

Iain Burnside’s programme charts the composer’s journey from pupil of Stanford to teacher of Britten, embracing such magnificent works as The last invocation (1918), a punchy Whitman setting, and the heart-melting melancholy of ’Tis but a week.

New Artist - Catrin Johnsson

We are delighted to announce that we now represent the Swedish mezzo-soprano Catrin Johnsson.

Recent & engagements include La Ciesca in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi at Opera Holland Park, Cherubino in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, and the role of Medoro in Handel’s Orlando at the Åmot Opera Farm Festival in Norway. She recently made her debut at English National Opera singing the title role in The Duchess of Malfi.

She has performed extensively in oratorio in her native Sweden and also taken part in concert tours of France, Spain, Sweden and New Zealand with the pianist Rachel Fuller. Catrin is a guest tutor of the New Zealand National Singing School and is a voice teacher at St Paul’s Boy’s School in London.

Prestigious win for Victor Sicard

Victor Sicard has won the First Prize for Opera, the Young Singers Prize and OFQJ Prize* in the prestigious 24ème Concours International de Chant in Marmande, France.

As part of his prize Victor will perform as series of recitals in Canada.

Victor Sicard made his debut at Glyndebourne on 21 August 2012 where he has been covering the roles of The Cat and Grandfather Clock in Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilège.

Exile, Solitude and Heroic quests

19th International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival

We are delighted that we have four artists performing roles at the 19th International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival in Buxton this year.

Simon Masterton-Smith can be seen as The Mikado on 28, 29 July & 5 August a role he will also reprise in Harrogate on 27 August.

Jeni Bern returns to Buxton after a break of several years as Casilda in The Gondoliers with performances on 3, 4 & 12 August.

Catrine Kirkman and John Savournin perform in the rarely performed Grand Duke as The Princess of Monte-Carlo and Herald respectively on 17 & 18 August. This is the first time in 116 years this operetta has been performed by a professional company with a full orchestra.

Ailish Tynan - all the way to Reims!!

Ailish Tynan is delighted to be performing the role of Madam Cortese in Rossini's rarely performed comic opera Il viaggio a Reims at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

The performance celebrates the 10th Anniversary of the first Young Artists Summer Performance in and brings together both previous and current young artists.

The performance will take place on 19 July 2012 at the Royal Opera House and will be accompanied by the orchestra of English National Opera.

New Artist - Stuart Pendred

We are delighted to announce that we now represent the bass-baritone Stuart Pendred. Stuart originally trained as an actor and his career has spanned film, television, theatre and musicals. In his classical training he studies with Julian Gavin and coaches with David Syrus and Phillip Thomas.

Operatic roles to date include Marullo Rigoletto for Grange Park Opera; Montano Otello and Sciarrone Tosca for Dorset Opera; Escamillo Carmen for Impact Opera; Baron Dauphol La traviata for Opera at Bearwood and Sarastro The Magic Flute and Escamillo for New Vic Opera.

We are delighted to announce the representation of the British soprano Gweneth-Ann Jeffers. Engagements in the current season include Clotilde and Norma (cover) for Opera North, Leonora La forza del Destino for Chelsea Opera Group at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Aida for the Macedonian Opera and a recital series at the St Mangus Festival. Next season she will perform Santuzza Cavalleria Rusticana for Opera Holland Park.

Other notable performances include Aida in Helsinki, Bremen and Kiel, Leonora La forza del destino, La Gioconda and La Wally for Opera Holland Park and Amelia Un ballo in Maschera & Margherita / Helena in Boito's Mefistofele in Erfurt. 

Her concert repertoire includes the Verdi Requiem, Mahler Das Klagende Lied, Poulenc Gloria for the Three Choirs Festival and Schoenberg Gurrelieder with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. She has also received critical acclaim for her interpretations of Messiaen's Poemès pour Mi and Harawi with pianist Simon Lepper.

Ailish Tynan returns to the Wigmore Hall on 26 June 2012 with pianist Christopher Glynn in an exciting programme as part of the Ravel 75th Anniversary.

Ailish is acclaimed for her performances in opera and recital. She sings Ravel’s inspired folksong arrangements alongside some masterful and atmospheric songs of his late period. She also sings music by composers that Ravel especially admired - Falla, Strauss and Gershwin.

Heading to the Highlands with Scottish Opera

Claire Watkins returns to Scottish Opera for their 50th Anniversary Season as First Lady in an new productions of The Magic Flute directed by Sir Thomas Allen in a new translation by Kit Hesketh-Harvey.

The production will premiere in Glasgow at the Theatre Royal of 17 October 2012 before touring to Aberdeen, Inverness, Edinburgh and Belfast.

Catrine Kirkman and John Savournin make thier Scottish Opera debuts in the 2012/13 season in a co-production with the The D'Oyly Carte Opera Company of The Pirates of Penzance.

Catrine will perform the role of Isabel and John covers the role of Pirate King. The production will be directed by Martin Lloyd-Evans and conducted by John Owen Edwards.

Ailish Tynan performs Carmina Burana with the Philharmonia Orchestra on 18 May at the Royal Festival Hall. The concert is conducted by Andrew Greenwood.

Carmina Burana is fast becoming one of Ailish Tynan's signature pieces as this performance follows previous dates with the RTÉ NSO, RPO, Mullingar Choral Society and BSO since autumn 2011.

Kristin Finnigan to perform again at Wexford

Kristin Finnigan is delighted to be returning to Ireland this autumn to perform again at the Wexford Festival Opera.

Kristin will perform the role of Mrs Kneebone in A Dinner Engagement by Lenox Berkley and and will also appear in two of the other productions during the festival.

Another competition win for Victor Sicard

Victor Sicard along with pianist Anna Cardona have added yet another title to their recent competition wins! The latest is the 23rd International Competition Paper de Música de Capellades 2012 in Barcelona.

The prize includes ten sponsored concerts for the duo Sicard-Cardona, a cash prize and 25 hours of studio recording time.

New Artist - Phillip Thomas

We are delighted to announce the representation of the conductor and vocal coach Phillip Thomas.

Phillip Thomas is one of the most sought after vocal coaches and accompanists of his generation and more recently his move to conducting has been hailed as a triumph by singers and critics alike.

His revered work with international opera singers has led to a prolific concert career around the world. In addition to his work with the world's leading artists, Phillip is renowned for developing and nurturing some of the finest young operatic talent in the country.

As maestro, Phillip's conducting career includes performances at English National Opera at the London Coliseum, Opera Holland Park, Dorset Opera Festival and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.

His skills as vocal consultant and producer have been sought after by the likes of the BBC, BMG, Sony and Decca on recording projects.

We are delighted to announce that we now represent the Canadian tenor Alan Woodrow. Alan's engagements in the current season include Fatty Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny Israeli Opera and Mao Tse-Tung Nixon in China Lyric Opera of Kansas City.

Other recent appearances include Mao Tse-Tung Vancouver Opera, Bacchus Ariadne auf Naxos Opera Ireland, Aegisth Elektra Washington National Opera and Canadian Opera Company, Tristan Tristan und Isolde Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse, West Australian Opera and Tiroler Festspiele Erl, and in Peter Sellars’ production with the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra.

Victor Sicard wins again!

Victor Sicard has won the XXIIIrd FLAME Competition in Paris, adding to a number of prestigious competition prizes.

Additionally, Victor will continue his studies at the National Opera Studio in London this autumn and at Le Jardin des Voix in Caen during spring 2013.
