Anthony Flaum
Tenor

Anthony Flaum is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and the National Opera Studio, in London. His studies were generously supported by English National Opera and the John Wates Foundation. Anthony began his professional life in banking before progressing to his vocal studies.

In the current season Anthony performs Paris La belle Hélène for New Sussex Opera; Paxton Pandora’s Box for The Opera Story; and understudies Orpheus in a new production of Orpheus in the Underworld for English National Opera

Highlights in recent seasons include his main stage debut at English National Opera as Borsa in Jonathan Miller's production of Rigoletto; Pinkerton Madame Butterfly and Rodolfo La bohème for Iford Arts; Turiddù Cavelleria Rusticana for Portsmouth Choral Society; Don José Carmen for Tonbridge Philharmonic Society; and Gonzalve L’heure espagnol for Mid Wales Opera.

Operatic roles include Macduff Macbeth and the Opera Highlights Tour (Scottish Opera); Nemorino L’elisir d’amore (Nevill Holt Opera and Northern Ireland Opera); Tybalt Roméo et Juliette, Lensky Eugene Onegin, Tchekalinsky The Queen of Spades and Motel Kamzoyl Fiddler on the Roof (Grange Park Opera); Scaramuccio Ariadne auf Naxos (West Green House Opera); and the title role in Verdi's Aroldo (UC Opera). For OperaUpClose he was the first Rodolfo in their critically acclaimed production of La bohème, with subsequent roles including Lensky Eugene Onegin, Don José Carmen and Don Ottavio Don Giovanni.

Roles understudies include Prince/Marquis/Manservant Lulu, David The Mastersingers of Nuremberg, Nemorino The Elixir of Love, and St. Brioche The Merry Widow (English National Opera) and Bill in Jonathan Dove’s Flight (Scottish Opera).

Anthony has sung with various orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Concert Orchestra at Proms and galas concerts, most notably in Fiddler on the Roof at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.
