Susan Moore is a character contralto renowned for her diversity and energetic performance style. She studied voice at diploma and postgraduate level at Trinity College of Music and was highly commended for her French mélodie interpretation and awarded 1st place in the Elizabeth Schumann Lieder Prize.
Highlights in recent seasons include Mistress Quickly Falstaff for Opera Bohemia; Marcellina Le nozze de Figaro at the Kilden Theatre, Kristiansand; and Lady Jane Patience, Third Lady The Magic Flute and roles in Borka, Laika the Spacedog and Silver Electra all for English Touring Opera.
Other operatic engagements include Ericlea The Return of Ulysses (The Early Opera Company / Iford Arts); Suzuki Madame Butterfly (Opera Brava); Florence Pike Albert Herring (Surrey Opera); Katisha and Pitti-SingThe Mikado as well as Little Buttercup and Cousin Hebe HMS Pinafore (all for Charles Court Opera); Marcellina Le nozze diFigaro (Longborough Festival Opera); Widow Browe Peter the Great (Opera South); and Little Buttercup HMS Pinafore and Mrs Partlet The Sorcerer (Opera della Luna). Roles understudied include Filipyevna Eugene Onegin, Lady Jane Patience and Mrs Herring Albert Herring (English Touring Opera).
Highlights of Susan’s concert performances include Ariadne Laments by John Woolrich (European premiere) and Pergolesi Stabat Mater at the Bournemouth International Festival. Most recently she performed the contralto solos in Elijah at Snape Maltings.
She has also given four successful recital series tours, Something childish, but very natural, with pianist & composer Russell Hepplewhite, A Woman’s Life & Love and A Charm of Lullabies with accompanist John Flinders, and Songs of Nature, a recital series that accompanied the world premier tour of Martin Read’s opera, Rainforest with pianist Nicholas Bosworth.
As well as being an accomplished opera, oratorio and recital singer, Susan is also an experienced musical theatre performer. Her roles include ElizaMy Fair Lady Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Baker’s Wife Into the Woods (Last Word Productions) and Mrs. Lovett Sweeney Todd (as part of a masterclass with Dennis Quilley).
Susan is also committed to working with amateur singers, including developing and running several performance workshops with W11 Opera (Projects Leader), ETO, Opera Minima, Last Word Productions-Musical Theatre Group, Streetwise Opera, Morley Opera School and The Voice Studio.
