The Rape of Lucretia wins at the Offies!

The Rape of Lucretia, conducted by Peter Selwyn has won Best Opera Production in the 2019 Offies! The production, directed by Julia Burbach, was staged as part of the Grimeborn Opera Festival at the Arcola Theatre last summer.

Peter Selwyn conducts The Rape of Lucretia at Grimeborn

Peter Selwyn conducts Benjamin Britten's first chamber opera, The Rape of Lucretia, for Grimeborn at the Arcola Theatre. The new production, directed by Julia Burbach, features Bethan Langford and Benjamin Lewis as Lucretia and Tarquinius.

Performances take from 24 July until 4 August.

Peter Selwyn conducts Walton and Haydn

Peter Selwyn returns to the Internationales Kammermusikfestival Nürnberg, where he is Co-artistic director, to conduct concerts on 16 and 17 September.

The repertoire includes Walton Facade, Ives The Unanswered Question and HaydnTrumpet Concerto.

Peter Selwyn conducts Britten and Woolrich in Nuremberg

Peter Selwyn conducts Britten Phaedra and Woolrich Ulysses Awakes in the final concert of the 14th Internationales Kammermusikfestival Nürnberg, with soloists Frances Pappas and Ruth Gibson. The concert takes place on Wednesday 16 September. 

Peter is co-founder and co-Artistic Director of the Festival where he has conducted works by composers including Britten, Gershwin, Mozart, Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky and Wagner since the festival was founded in 2001.

Peter recently conducted concert performances of Die Walküre (arr. Jonathan Dove) for Berwick Festival Opera, in association with the Hebrides Ensemble, at The Matlings, Berwick-upon Tweed and at the Perth Concert Hall. The performances were praisied by critics in both The Scotsman and Herlad Scotland with 4 star reviews in both publications.

Peter Selwyn conducts Wagner in Berwick and Perth

Peter Selwyn conducts Wagner's Die Walküre this week for Berwick Festival Opera at The Maltings in Berwick-upon-Tweed and Perth Concert Hall.

These performaces build on the success of the Die Walküre exceprts performed in Berwick last year. Peter is no stranger to conducting Wagner's Ring as he was assistant conductor on the Ring Cycle in Bayreuth and Nuremberg and as repetiteur the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden under Bernard Haitink.

The concert performances will use Jonathan Dove's 18 piece re-orchestration that was commissiond by Birmingham Opera Company in 1990. The experienced cast includes Janice Watson, Miriam Murphy, Paul Carey Jones, Ronald Samm and Andrea Baker with musicians from the Hebrides Ensemble and National Youth Orchestra of Scotland Camerata.
