Looking forward to Welsh National Opera's 2019/20 season

With rehearsals for Welsh National Opera's only a few weeks away we are delighted to have several artists working on these productions.

Robyn Lyn Evans and Wyn Pencarreg appear in the third opera in David Pountney's Verdi trilogy, Les vêpres siciliennes, Robyn performs Daniéli and Mainfroid, whilst covering Henri, and Wyn performs Le Sire de Béthune.

Additionally, covers include Robyn as Il Duca and Claire Wild as Gilda in Rigoletto, with Wyn covering Escamillo in Carmen and Harašta in The Cunning Little Vixen.

A trio of artists perform in WNO's Roberto Devereux

Robyn Lyn Evans, Wyn Pencarreg and Philip Smith perform in Welsh National Opera's production of Roberto Devereux, directed by Alessandro Talevi and conducted by Carlo Rizzi and James Southall.

Robyn performs Lord Cecil, while understudying the title role, Wyn performs Sir Gualtiero Raleigh, and Philip makes his WNO debut as Nottingham's Confidant, while understudying Raleigh.

Performances take place from 28 February at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, before touring until 10 May.

Wyn Pencarreg performs in the first revival of Richard Jones' La bohème

Wyn Pencarreg performs Alcindoro in the first revival of Richard Jones' production of La bohème at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. The production, first seen last autumn is conducted by Nicola Luisotti.

Performances take place from 16 June until 20 July.

Wyn Pencarreg makes his debut at the Royal Danish Opera

Wyn Pencarreg steps in at short notice to perform Roc in The Exterminating Angel for the premiere at the Royal Danish Opera. The production is directed by Tom Cairns and conducted by Robert Hossart.

Wyn performed the role of Padre Sansón in this production at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 2017. He is also currently performing Alcade in La forza del destino for Welsh National Opera.

Wyn Pencarreg makes his debut with Welsh National Opera

Wyn Pencarreg makes his debut with Welsh National Opera as Alcade in David Pountney's new production of La forza del destino, conducted by Carlo Rizzi.

The premiere takes place on 2 February at the Wales Millennium Centre, before touring until 21 April.

Wyn Pencarreg in Royal Opera Christmas Day Broadcast

Wyn Pencarreg appears as Alcindro in Richard Jones' production of La bohème from the Royal Opera House, in a Christmas Day broadcast on BBC Four.

This festive highlight in certainly one not to miss, and is available on BBC iPlayer for 30 days after broadcast.

Wyn Pencarreg performs in the Royal Opera's new production of La bohème

Wyn Pencarreg performs Alcindoro in Richard Jones' new production of La bohème at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. The long awaited production with designs by Stewart Laing, is conducted by Sir Antonio Pappano.

The premiere takes place on 11 September with a further twenty four performances through the season.

Njabulo Madlala and Wyn Pencarreg perform in Der Freischütz

Njabulo Madlala and Wyn Pencarreg perform Caspar and Kuno in Der Freischütz for Blackheath Halls Opera.

The new production, the first fully staged production in the UK since 1999, is directed by Oliver Platt and conducted by Nicholas Jenkins, in an English translation by David Pountney.

Performances take place at Blackheath Halls from 18 - 23 July 2017.

Wyn Pencarreg in the UK premiere of The Exterminating Angel

Wyn Pencarreg performs Padre Sansón in The Exterminating Angel at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

Tom Cairns directs the production that premiered in Salzburg last year and Thomas Adès conducts the huge ensemble, in this, the UK premiere of his latest opera, inspired by Luis Buñuel’s iconic film.

Performances take place on 24, 27 April and 1, 3, 6, 8 May.

Also for The Royal Opera, from 12 May, he will perform a Flemish Deputy in Don Carlos, in Nicholas Hytner's classic production, conducted by Betrande de Billy.

New Artist - Wyn Pencarreg

We are delighted to announce that Welsh baritone Wyn Pencarreg has joined our roster for general management. Wyn studied at the Royal Northern College of Music gaining many prizes and scholarships including awards from the Countess of Munster trust, the Peter Moores Foundation and the Wolfson Foundation. He was also a winner of the Erich Vietheer Memorial Award from Glyndebourne Festival Opera. He continues his studies with David Pollard. 

Highlights in recent seasons include revival performances of The Firework-Makers Daughter at the Linbury, Cuno Der Freichütz with the OAE conducted by Sir Mark Elder, his mainstage debut at the Royal Opera House as Fiorello Il barbiere di Siviglia, Surin The Queen of Spades for English National Opera,Sharpless Madama Butterfly at the Royal Albert Hall and Music Master Ariadne auf Naxos at West Green House. 

Current engagements include Padre Sanson The Exterminating Angel and Flemish Deputy Don Carlos for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, performances of The Rattler with Mahogany Opera Group and covering the title role in Don Giovanni for English National Opera.
