Grenfell Tower Benefit Concert

In the wake of the terrible fire at Grenfell Tower, Nazan Fikret, with support and generous assistance from Cadogan Hall, the Royal Opera House, Garsington Opera, Opera magazine, the International Opera Awards and leading arts professionals, has rallied fellow performers to organise a concert to raise funds for those affected.

The concert on at Cadogan Hall on 17 September, presented by Petroc Trelawny, will feature a sensational line-up of both established and up-and-coming artists. This is a one-off event and everyone involved has given their services for free.

All funds raised will be distributed equally between Rugby Portobello Trust (Charity No 1100143) and Grief Encounter (Charity No 1101277) which focus specifically on helping the affected families with rehabilitation and looking to the future.

Ailish Tynan performs at Kilkenny Arts Festival

Ailish Tynan performs in a series of concerts at the 2017 Kilkenny Arts Festival. She will perform in three concerts across the Schubert themed festival.

17 August - Ailish and Iain Burnside perform some of Schubert’s best-loved songs, including Schwanengesang and Nacht und Träume.

19 August - Ailish will perform Schubert's Der hirt auf dem Felsen with the Irish Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Jörg Widmann.

20 August - Ailish joins Benjamin Appl, Iain Burnside and James Baillieu for the final lieder concert of the festival.

A trio of new artists join SSArtists

We are delighted to welcome three new artists to our roster.

Soprano Llio Evans gained a first class honours degree at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama before going on to study with Dennis O'Neill at the Wales International Academy of Voice. Future engagements include her English National Opera debut as Celia in Iolanthe, Janaček Danube Symphony with BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and a revival of her critically acclaimed production of The Golden Dragon with Music Theatre Wales.

Tenor Robyn Lyn Evans is a postgraduate of the Royal College of Music, London and graduate of Trinity College Carmarthen and recipient of the Stuart Burrows Bursary. Future engagements include role debuts as Cavaradossi Tosca for Opera Project and Lensky Eugene Onegin for Mid Wales Opera. He will also make further appearances as Rodolfo for Diva Opera.

Bass-Baritone Joseph Padfield graduated with distinction from the Opera Course of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2014. He was an Alvarez Young Artist at Garsington Opera in 2012 & 2017, a Les Azuriales Young Artist in 2015 and is currently a recipient of the 2016-17 International Opera Awards Bursary Fund. Recent highlights include singing Golaud Pelléas et Mélisande for Garsington Opera, his return to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama as Ibn Hakia Iolanta and performances as Figaro Le nozze di Figaro and Guglielmo Cosi fan tutte for Diva Opera on tour in the UK, France and South Africa.

All are represented worldwide by SSArtists.

Susan Moore performs Mrs Herring in Canada

Susan Moore performs Mrs Herring in Albert Herring in Canada at the Halifax Opera Festival. The production is directed by Davis Mosey and conducted by Nicholas Gilmore.

She will perform the role in two of the four performances, on 5 & 11 August, at the Sir James Dunn Theatre.

Jeni Bern performs with the Orchestra of Opera North

Jeni Bern performs with the Orchestra of Opera North and baritone Quirijn de Lang in Millennium Square, Leeds, in a dazzling progrrame of music from opera and musicals. The concert is conducted by James Holmes and Jessica Cottis. 

Jeni will perform favourites including Un bel di and Song to the Moon, alongside senational numbers like I Can Cook Too from On the Town and Blitzstein's I Wish It So

The concert takes place in Millennium Square on 29 July 2017.

Nazan Fikret performs in Orfeo ed Euridice at Longborough

Nazan Fikret performs Euridice in Orfeo ed Euridice for Longborough Festival Opera. This new production is conducted by Jeremy Silver and directed by Maria Jagusz. 

Performances take place at Lonborough from 29 July to 1 August and at King's College London's Greenwood Theatre on 4 August.

Next season season Nazan will perform Arasse in Siroe, re di Persia for the Nederlandse Reisopera.

Sarah Redgwick returns to Garsington Opera

Sarah Redgwick returns to Garsington Opera as Mrs Morrell in Silver Birch by Roxanna Panufnik. 

This exciting new commission, with a libretto from writer Jessica Duchen, is a celebration of music, drama, poetry and dance and brings together professional singers with members of the local community. The production is directed by Karen Gillingham and is conducted by Douglas Boyd.

Inspired by the timeless themes of war and relationships affected by it, the opera draws upon Siegfried Sassoon's poems and the testimony of a British soldier, who served recently in Iraq, to illustrate the human tragedies of conflicts past and present. 

Performances take place from 28-20 July 2017.

Claire Wild and Philip Smith perform in Così fan tutte

Claire Wild and Philip Smith perform Fiordiligi and Don Alfonso in a new promenade production of Così fan tutte

The re-imagined production, condensed into about an hour, has been re-orchestrated for violin, bassoon and accordian, by young composer/conductor Leo Geyer, with a new modern English libretto written by director Joanna Turner.

Perfomances take place from 27 July to 6 August in a local café or pub...

Jeni Bern performs with the BBC Concert Orchestra at the King's Lynn Festival. The concert Friday Night is Music Night: Heroes and Villains, conducted by Richard Balcombe, will be broadcast on Friday 4 August.

The concert takes place at King's Lynn Corn Exchange on 26 July 2017.

Njabulo Madlala and Wyn Pencarreg perform in Der Freischütz

Njabulo Madlala and Wyn Pencarreg perform Caspar and Kuno in Der Freischütz for Blackheath Halls Opera.

The new production, the first fully staged production in the UK since 1999, is directed by Oliver Platt and conducted by Nicholas Jenkins, in an English translation by David Pountney.

Performances take place at Blackheath Halls from 18 - 23 July 2017.

Ailish Tynan performs world première at Wigmore Hall

Ailish Tynan is joined by James Baillieu, Adam Walker and Alasdair Tait (piano, flute & cello), in a vocal and instrumental programme at Wigmore Hall on Friday 14 July. 

Ailish will perform works including Ravel's Chansons madécasses, Fauré's cinq mélodies 'de Venise' and the world première of Nuits d'Afrique, commissioned by Wigmore Hall and written for Ailish by Judith Weir.

Keel Watson performs in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

Keel Watson returns to Opera Holland Park this summer to reprise the role of the Caterpillar in Will Todd's family opera Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The Caterpillar is a role that Keel created when the opera was first premiered in 2013.

Ben Thapa performs at the Buxton Festival

Ben Thapa performs in Aufidio in the early Mozart opera, Luico Silla, at the Buxton Festival, in a co-production with The English Concert. The new production is directed by Harry Silverstein and conducted by Laurence Cummings.

Performances take place on 9, 13, 16, 20 July. Ben also covers the title role.

Philip Smith performs in The Barber of Seville

Philip Smith performs the role of Figaro in The Barber of Seville for Iford Arts this summer. The new production is created by Charles Court Opera, directed by John Savournin and conducted by David Eaton.

Performances take place from 21 June to 1 July in the miniature Italianate cloister within The Harold Peto Gardens of Iford Manor.
